On Friday, March 28, 2025, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar, with devastating effects also felt in Thailand. The tremor, considered the strongest in nearly 80 years for Myanmar’s cities, caused hundreds of casualties and significant damage. Casualties and Damage Conflicting reports exist regarding the death toll. Official sources in Myanmar cite at least 144 deaths and 732 injuries, while Thai authorities confirm eight deaths and 110 injuries. In total, the earthquake is estimated to have killed over 150 people across both countries. In Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, a skyscraper collapsed, killing three and heightening rescue urgency.
